This session will feature guest presenters from the Higher Education Gender-based Violence Regulator at the Australian Government Department of Education. We’ll examine online safety through the lens of the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender‑based Violence, with a focus on what it means in practice for institutions, staff and students.
In the session, we’ll also highlight one of the most significant and growing risks facing tertiary students today: sexual extortion (or ‘sextortion’). Learn how online dating platforms, social media, messaging services and gaming apps are being used to target students – and what staff can do to recognise risks, respond appropriately and support safer online experiences.
